Pip calculator: what a pip is worth in your position

Before you can manage your risk cleanly, you need to know what a single pip is actually worth in your position. This calculator shows it to you in the quote currency and in your account currency.

The pip value depends on your position size, the pip size of the instrument and the exchange rate. Enter your numbers and see right away what a one-pip move means for you.

Why the pip value matters

Risk becomes measurable

Without the pip value you cannot determine your risk in money terms cleanly. It is the bridge between pips on the chart and euros in your account.

Derive your position size

Once you know what a pip is worth, you can choose your position size so that your loss at the stop matches exactly the risk you planned.

Compare instruments

The pip value differs by pair and account currency. Knowing the value helps you compare risk fairly across different instruments.

Discipline instead of gut feeling

Working with concrete numbers rather than feelings makes for calmer trading. FlowTrader supports exactly this sober, rule-based approach.

Common questions about pip value

The pip value in the quote currency is the pip size times the position size in units. To convert it into your account currency, you divide that value by the exchange rate from quote to account currency. This calculator does exactly that for you.

A pip is the smallest common price move of an instrument. For most currency pairs that is 0.0001, and for pairs involving the Japanese yen it is 0.01. The pip is the unit you use to measure moves and the distance to your stop.

Because it depends on the position size, the pip size of the instrument and the exchange rate to your account currency. The same pip move can be worth a different amount of money depending on the pair and account currency, which is why a concrete calculation is worth it.
