Break-even calculator: the win rate you really need
Many chase a high win rate without paying attention to their risk-reward ratio. This calculator shows you the minimum win rate you need at a given R:R just to break even.
At a risk-reward ratio of 2 to 1, a win rate of around 33 percent is already enough to break even. Enter your R:R and see how many of your trades need to win at minimum.
Calculate break-even win rate
Why the break-even rate counts
Put your win rate in perspective
A low win rate is not a problem if your risk-reward ratio is right. The calculator shows you what is really enough.
Take the pressure off
Knowing that you do not have to win every trade takes enormous pressure off and helps you accept losses as a normal part of the game.
Check your system realistically
You can check whether your actual win rate fits your R:R, and so judge whether your approach holds up over many trades.
Discipline instead of perfection
You do not have to be right, you have to be consistent. FlowTrader helps you observe your R:R and your win rate honestly over time.
Common questions about the break-even win rate
The required win rate is 1 divided by (1 plus the risk-reward ratio). At an R:R of 2 that is 1 divided by 3, so around 33 percent. That is how many of your trades need to win at minimum for you to break even at this R:R.
No. A high win rate is only one of two levers; the other is your risk-reward ratio. With a good R:R you can be profitable even with a win rate below 50 percent, because your winners are larger than your losers.
That depends on your style, but many traders aim for at least 2 to 1, that is twice as much reward as risk. More important than a fixed value is that R:R and win rate fit together, so that your approach has a positive expectancy over many trades.
