Five channels that really work
Sorted by effort and time-to-first-client. Pick one, focus, do it consistently for three months.
Your direct trader network
Effort: 1 day · Time to 1st client: 1-2 weeksYou know traders. From Discord, YouTube comments, the trader meetup, your old job. List 30 names, approach 10 of them specifically. Not “want to be coached”, but “I'm just starting as a coach, looking for 3 pilot clients at a reduced rate – would that be something for you or do you know someone?”.
- Concrete personal addressing, no mass post
- “Looking for 3 pilot clients” sounds scarce and serious
- Reduced rate against permission for a story
- Maintain the list, follow up after 4 weeks
Active trader community (one channel)
Effort: 2-3 hrs/week · Time to 1st client: 2-3 monthsPick ONE platform actively: one Discord server, one YouTube channel in comments, one Reddit subreddit. Be there every day for three months – not with “Hi I'm a coach” spam, but with real answers to questions. Visibility comes from substance, not frequency.
- One platform, not five
- Daily presence, but no spam
- Helpful answers without sales attempts
- Mention coaching only after 4-6 weeks when someone explicitly asks
Own content channel (YouTube or newsletter)
Effort: 4-6 hrs/week · Time to 1st client: 4-6 monthsIf you're halfway okay in speech and on camera: YouTube is slow but rewarding. Weekly video, clear niche (“Daytrading DAX futures” or “Crypto swing”). If not video: newsletter. Both need patience, both scale.
- Pick a sharp niche – generalists don't rank
- Weekly consistency more important than production value
- First 20 episodes are tuition fee – then impact shows
- CTA: “free first call” on every page
Cooperations with trading education providers
Effort: 1-2 weeks prep · Time to 1st client: 1-3 monthsThere are German trading academies, prop firms, trader communities looking for external coaches. Send personal cover with clear niche, a sample lesson and clear price. Some build affiliate models, some pay flat fees – both work.
- Personal outreach, no mass email
- Include sample lesson or short workshop excerpt
- Clear terms: cost per session, minimum client count
- Affiliate is okay, but 50/50 is industry standard
Trust pages and SEO (long-term)
Effort: 8-12 hrs/month · Time to 1st client: 6-12 monthsPeople who Google “Trading Coach Germany” find someone – eventually you, if you build substantial trust pages. Your own mini-site with 4-6 pages (About, Approach, Pricing, FAQ, one blogpost per month). Nothing for the first 3 clients – but for #10 and #20.
- Own domain + 4-6 clean pages
- One blogpost per month on a specific topic
- Photos and real names – anonymous coaches don't rank
- Patience: SEO takes 6-12 months, then it runs
Four strategies that cost you money and time
Classic beginner traps – part of the honest balance sheet.
- “Build visibility on Instagram”Instagram for trading coaching is by now a graveyard of reach bots and affiliate funnels. If you don't already have 10,000 followers – forget it as primary channel. Discord or YouTube have much better ratios.
- Immediate website + logo + branding package from an agency€3,000–7,000 for website and corporate identity before your first client. Classic agency trap. First 5 paying clients, then optional website investment.
- Coach certificate for €2,000–5,000IHK Coach, ICF, one of the many private “coach trainings” – brings zero official recognition for trading coaching. Clients care about your trading experience, not a certificate. Save it.
- “I offer everything and see what sticks”Daytrading, swing, crypto, forex, stocks, options – all in one profile. Doesn't work. Client looks for a specialist. Pick ONE niche, be visible there – diversification can come later.
Three realistic fee models
What German trading coaches typically charge – and which client phase it fits.
Flat-rate package
€200 – 500 / month
for 4 sessions + ongoing chat
Monthly retainer with fixed number of sessions (e.g. 4 × 60 min) plus ongoing WhatsApp/FlowTrader chat. Coach has predictability, client knows cost. The classic.
Hourly rate
€80 – 150 / hour
booked individually
Client books individual sessions on demand. You have less predictability but lower barrier for first contact. Good as entry model – premium coaches are often at €150-200/hr.
Intensive program (3-6 months)
€1,500 – 5,000 one-time
Flat package
Structured program with defined lessons, fixed sessions, learning paths, joint trade reviews. Higher commitment, higher value per client. Requires clear curriculum structure.
